The main activity of environmental hygiene, known also as environmental health, is to manage (prevention, removal) environmental factors, that may have adverse effects on our health. The discipline originates from Hygiene, that studies how to maintain and strengthen health, according to the living conditions. Environmental hygiene considers the theory and practice of assessment, monitoring, intervention and prevention of environmental factors, which may affect health of present and future generations. Today’s main activities of sanitary engineers in the filed:

  • biological, chemical and physical food safety
  • biological, physical and chemical safety of drinking water,
  • biological, physical and chemical safety of bathing water,
  • disinfection, disinfestation and rodent extermination,
  • air emissions,
  • exposure to noise,
  • general consumer goods,
  • waste and wastewater management,
  • health and safety at work.
